There’s so much going on in the world lately. From natural disasters left and right to murders and mass shootings we need to be watchful and prayerful. The time of the Lord’s returning draws near. We need to make sure that we are saved and we need to live each day as if it’s your last. I decided to share a devotion I wrote a while ago but it seems very fitting for what’s going on today. Let’s remember to keep each other in constant prayer; that God will guide, watch over and protect us each and everyday.
One morning my devotion featured the text from Psalms 90:12 that says “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom”. I found it funny because that morning as I was getting ready for work, Chace woke up and he wanted me to hold him and cuddle but I couldn’t because I was trying to do my makeup and fix my hair and get everything ready for our day. And he started getting cranky and couldn’t understand that I had a schedule and I had to get moving so that we can leave on time(I know lots of you go through this, especially you Moms with younger children). And in the midst of all of that, I started thinking to myself that I need to spend more time playing with him when I’m home. I was thinking, damn I wish I had more than 24 hours in a day. I have no time it seems; when I get home I’m trying to cook, clean, pack bags for the next day, give him a bath, and try to even have some time to myself. I feel like I’m not spending time with him, like watching a movie or getting on the floor and playing with him. And I was thinking that soon he will get older and won’t want to do these things. So the thought came to me that some days I can get takeout, or leave the house messy etc. The devotion was basically saying the same thing. That instead of always being so busy we need to spend time in the word, stop to smell the roses and spend quality time with our loved ones. The fact is we only have 24 hours and with our busy lives and schedules, it seems like it’s not enough but it’s another day that we get to be alive, and that’s a blessing. Tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone, in fact, the hour isn’t promised to anyone. As much as we don’t want to think about it, life is fragile and time wasted is time you can never get back so we should use it wisely. The devotion said that the time we are given can either be invested or wasted, used or misused. So the next time you find yourself caught up in the hustle and bustle of your daily lives, stop for even a few minutes to give God thanks, or send a text to a loved one or reach out to a friend you haven’t spoken to a while or hug and kiss your spouse, your children or do something enjoyable. After all we only have one life, once the time is gone we can’t go back and undo, redo or change anything. So let’s enjoy it as much as we can. Let us start practicing making a life instead of just making a living…Have a happy and blessed Day
