This morning as I was on my way to work, it was so cold, rainy and windy. The wind was blowing in every direction. My poor umbrella was tossed to and fro and couldn’t cover me. It flipped over on the other side and I ended up closing it so that it wouldn’t break. This made me think of palm trees. Have you ever seen a palm tree in a storm? I’m not talking about regular rainstorm but a hurricane. While the storm is happening, the palm trees are swaying from side to side. Every direction the storm goes, they go with it. They even bend all the way down sometimes. What is amazing though is that they do not fall or are uprooted and once the storm passes, they seem to readjust and stand upright. We can take two things from this. One is that when you are in the midst of a storm, just go with the flow of things. Don’t try to resist or fight against it. It will be almost impossible. You will exhaust yourself trying to fight against the storm that it will not only consume you but it may end up breaking you. The second thing is, the palm trees roots are deeply planted in the ground. Therefore, their leaves and branches may be affected but because the root is firmly secured, the tree is able to keep standing and withstand the storm. This is why we need to have deep roots. And the way to have deep roots to have a connection and a relationship with God. When we have a foundation in Jesus, the storms of life may be tossing us to and fro but we know that we will be able to withstand it and when it’s over we can readjust ourselves and carry on with our lives. We know that our trust in not in the storm but in God. Jeremiah says 17:7-8 says “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drough.” The Umbrella unlike the palm tree sustainability is dependent on the weather. When it’s sunny, it stands upright but if it’s windy, it usually flips over and breaks. So be like the palm tree and not the Umbrella. Be bendable but not breakable. We are going to encounter storms in this life, but once we have our trust in God we know that it will pass and we will get through it. God says in Isaiah 26:3 that he will keep thee in perfect peace, who’s eyes are stayed on thee, because he trusted in thee. So let’s be like Palm Trees and not Umbrellas. Have a blessed and happy Monday❤️
