What Would Jesus Do?

Yesterday I was on social media and one of the blogs posted a famous gay man who openly dresses in women’s clothing. I was reading the comments and a lot of people were saying mean things about this man, that they do not know personally. They were saying things like this is wrong and he’s going to hell etc. I decided to comment and say while as Christians we may not agree with his homosexuality and believe that it’s a sin, it’s not our place to pass judgment on this person. The same way we look at his homosexuality and are disgusted, is the same way God looks at our promiscuity and all of the daily sins that we commit. The difference is however that God chooses to show compassion for us and he gives us grace, therefore we should do the same. Well, that comment ruffled this young woman’s feathers. She asked how dare I compare someone who is “born gay” to someone who’s a cheater, liar etc. I told her that my bible tells me that all of those things are wrong and none is greater or lesser than the other. She then proceeded to tell me that she agnostic and doesn’t believe in a book written thousands of years ago by man and that I should be ashamed of myself. I quickly and gladly responded that I am proud to be a bible believing Christian, however she clearly missed the entire message that I was trying to convey in my initial comment, which was one of love. The thing is, we don’t have to back down or water down our beliefs as Christians to fit in with the world. In fact, we are supposed to stand out. We don’t have to be politically correct on our views because we don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings or are worried of how others may feel about us. However, we must not pass judgment on others for the sins that they commit because we are not perfect. That’s the difference between condoning something and condemning the person. When faced with these situations we should ask ourselves, What would Jesus do? And we actually know the answer to that question. When the woman caught in adultery was brought before him to be punished, much to her accusers surprise, Jesus did the complete opposite. He was kind and compassionate towards her. Instead of being a harsh judge, he choose to be a gentle friend and savior. He used that moment to not only teach her but to minister to her accusers as well. He said to her that he does not condemn her, but we know that he did not condone her behavior either. He also said to her, “now go and sin no more”. We have to be mindful as Christians of separating the sin from the sinner. We can disagree with the sin but still have love for and show compassion to the sinner. Romans 3:23 says for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;. That means that none of us are perfect. What you may be struggling with, I may not have issue with and vise versa. What we should always do is pray for that person, encourage them, offer a kind word. If they’re in darkness, pray that they may see the light. The second greatest command that God left for us, is to love our neighbors as ourselves. And that means everyone. Even the people who are not like us; the ones that don’t dress like us, talk like us or even believe in the same thing as us. The same grace that God extends to us, we should be always willing and ready to extend it to our fellow man. Be blessed ❤️
