Walking by Faith

What is faith?
The Oxford English Dictionary has two definitions. One is, complete trust or confidence in someone or something. And the other is, strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof. But what does the Bible say about faith? Hebrews 11:1 says Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

What does it mean to have faith or to walk by faith?
To me, having faith, means that even though I do not know the outcome of a situation, I know that it will be ok. I trust that God will work it out for me. Faith and trust go hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other. In order to have faith in something or someone you must trust them. It’s easy for me to have faith in God because I trust him. It’s easy for me to trust him because I have experienced him and at 37 years old, I’ve lived through some storms that he’s brought me out of. It’s because of his consistency in showing up for me time and time again that allows me to have full and complete trust in him. It’s like when you first dropped your child off at daycare, you may have explained to them that you would take them to daycare and pick them up after. The first day that you dropped them off, they may have cried after you left, because they may have felt abandoned and scared. It’s a unknown phenomenon to them and they’re in uncharted waters. When you went back to pick them up, they may have been relieved and excited. Everyday after, they may cry less and less until they stop crying all together. By consistently going to pick them up, they began to trust you and your word. They started to have faith that you’re not leaving them forever. It’s the same way with us and God. He has not only constantly assured us in his word that he won’t ever leave nor forsake us, but he’s shown us time and time again that his word is true. I know that he’s not only shown up for me countless times but he’s also showed out. Sometimes it’s hard for me to trust him and have faith when I can’t and don’t see his hand moving in my life or a particular situation. Then I remember the last time he brought me out of something and that alone gives me solace and peace. So, whenever you’re in the midst of your storm, and the clouds are so dark that you can’t see beyond the horizon, just keep your eyes fixed on God. Trust him to guide you through the darkness. Life is unpredictable and uncertain, there’s so many changes happening all around us. It seems like everyday there’s something new but God is a constant. We don’t have to know what tomorrow May bring because our faith is not in the day but in our savior. The songwriter says “Many things about tomorrow, I don’t seem to understand. But I know who holds the future and I know, who holds my hand”. Trust God where you can’t trace him. Hold on to his unchanging hand. Step out on faith and watch him do wonders in your life. Keep your eyes fixed on him and you will be able to weather any storm. Be blessed ❤️

  2. I can relate in so many ways sis. I, too, have weathered many storms in my 36 years of life and it’s only by the grace of God. I am never too worried about where God is leading me, though in the moment I may feel distraught, overwhelmed or anxious, or a situation seems hopeless. I trust God wholeheartedly because I know that He’s moved mountains for me. His has kept me and I know that He will continue to keep. Thanks for the reminder because sometimes life and its many challenges can cause us to overlook those mercies we receive daily.
